Originally a kind of loch ness monster with beautiful green wings was the basis for this painting. The lake had a life of its own though and quickly became a sort of cage to birds and other more primitive wild life.

 

There is a fire burning and the smoke from the fire darkens the sky.

 

In the upper left side of the painting is the birthing of a phoenix, rising from the ashes surrounded by two kissing angels and still protected in its egg / cocoon.

 

Additionally, just to the right of the dragon there is a black shape that is coming out of the lake sometimes it is a tooth or claw but most often it is the hand of God. It is in there with the burning, with the birds, with the muck and it is outside of all that too. It touches the sky; has substance and is in a way without substance. It plays an important balancing and calming role to the activity of its surroundings.
