Evolution is about creation, from single celled organisms to multi-celled simple organisms including plants and animals.

 

There is, moving out from the top left hand corner, the uterus, gestating new life. Outside the uterus are fully formed yet genetically simpler plant life and in the centre there is fire representing energy, vitality, power and in the case of, for example, a forest fire, death where the ashes bring renewed nourishment and life to the soil, restarting the circle of life. The soil in this case is red, blood red in fact, that which circulates through us and in Jewish literature our nephesh or soul is in our blood. This is the base of who we are, not physiologically, but spiritually.

 

It is only fitting that it should be at the base of this painting, our soul is undulating and alive, refreshed by the cycle of creation and destruction and together with our animal or body we are connected to all of creation right back to the first single cell organism and even before that to the processes and elements (molecules and atoms) that went into that structure.
