There is something primitive about this painting. A sense of wonder at the awesome power of nature to darken the sky (top), light the earth on fire (at right), create an environment ripe for life (sperm / budding vines).

 

One of my favourite features of this painting is the yellow markings at the centre of the storm. They are a symbol of the underlying pattern, the program, if you will, that drives and guides the mystery of the storm into its seemingly random nature (or in other words: The visual representation of the equation for this 3-dimensional fractal).
