The Corn Field is about the tragedy of GMO (genetically modified organism) foods. The genetic make-up of our produce has been altered with non-plant DNA (for example with fish DNA). The overall effects on our health and the health of our planet are devastating.
We get single crop produce today, they are bigger and prettier but poisoned with pesticides and their seeds are infertile, they cannot yield even a second crop. Along with pesticides, our fertilizers have chemicals in them that are potentially hazardous to our well being.
There is also a forest on the right. Every clear-cut bleeds the soil of its nutrients making it harder for the next generation of trees to grow.
Above the sun, the source of plant energy (through photosynthesis) is witnessing our childish and futile attempts at better yields and economic development through a fog of red. Unable to effect change by herself, wishing to be heard and seen, and at the same time to turn away and hide from the horrors down below. |
